Job Title Business Innovation Manager Location Rome, Italy Duration 6–11 months Duty Station Rome, Italy Background and Purpose of the Assignment The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has responded to unprecedented emergencies and continues to operate globally. The Business Innovation Unit (BIU)/UN Advisory Alliance (UNAA) supports change and promotes innovation within WFP’s Innovation division, acting as the management‑consulting arm to deliver end‑to‑end solutions across the UN system. Accountabilities / Responsibilities Execute Business Innovation projects – including scoping, data analysis, operational model design, change planning, and implementation monitoring. Align with BIU/UNAA priorities and contribute to strategic initiatives. Provide senior leadership support, guiding cross‑functional discussions, analytical work, and implementation oversight. Support UN Reform/UN80 implementation and related inter‑agency projects. Assist knowledge‑management activities and mentor junior staff. Deliver additional project support as required by contracting needs. Deliverables WFP/UN System Senior Leadership Support Prioritize key initiatives. Align objectives, timelines, and outputs. Provide analytical and project management support. Advise initiative sponsors and drive implementation. UN Reform/UN80 Deliver key interagency initiatives (e.g., Business Operations Strategy, Common Back Office, Global Shared Services). Conduct data analyses to inform UN80 work packages. Advise on communication efforts. Additional BIU/UNAA needs Support knowledge‑management reviews. Supervise and support junior staff on complex analysis. Provide project support as new contracts arise. Qualifications & Experience Required Education: Preference for a degree in business, economics or engineering. Experience: Approximately seven years of progressive, national or international experience in business or international relations, with at least seven years in management consulting or innovative finance. Knowledge & Skills: Develop new strategies and innovative projects. Advanced analytical skills – quantitative and qualitative, with proficiency in Excel and production of high‑quality written materials and presentations. Experience with optimization processes (strategic planning, sourcing, logistics, finance, performance management). Collaborative communication across cultures and levels, with credibility and diplomacy. Strong time‑management, planning, and prioritisation in tight deadlines. Self‑motivated and autonomous, yet effective in teamwork. Commitment to the goals of the UN World Food Programme. Languages: High proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of a second UN language is a plus. Visa: WFP supports visa applications; role based in Rome, Italy.
