Institute for Renewable Energy Eurac Research is looking for a motivated trainee with a background in one or more of the following fields: landscape architecture, urban planning, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, environmental economics, or equivalent. The trainee will support research activities on urban Nature-based Solutions (NbS), with a focus on ecosystem services assessment and microclimate analysis. Activities may include field monitoring campaigns, data processing and statistical analysis, GIS-based mapping, and microclimate modelling (e.g., ENVI-met). The internship offers the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research projects and, where appropriate, to develop an independent research topic (e.g., master’s thesis) aligned with the team’s work. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to strengthen skills in environmental data analysis, microclimate monitoring and modelling, quantitative assessment of ecosystem services, and scientific reporting and communication in an international research environment. Tasks Support the design and implementation of monitoring campaigns in urban NBS sites; Process, quality-check, and analyse monitoring and geospatial datasets (including basic statistical analysis and visualisation); Create GIS-based maps and indicators to support the assessment of ecosystem services and NBS performance; Support microclimate modelling activities (e.g., ENVI-met) and contribute to documentation, reporting, and dissemination of results. Requirements Background in one or more of the following fields: landscape architecture, urban planning, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, environmental economics, or equivalent; Interest and/or initial experience in urban Nature-based Solutions, ecosystem services assessment, microclimate measurements, GIS and/or remote sensing is desirable; Good command of GIS tools (e.g., QGIS/ArcGIS) and basic programming for data analysis (Python and/or R); familiarity with microclimate modelling tools (e.g., ENVI-met and/or CFD) is an advantage; Good oral and written communication skills; Skills on interpersonal relationships and teamwork; Motivation to learn and capacity to work in group and with autonomy; Good command of English (reading, writing and speaking); Knowledge of Italian and/or German is an advantage.
