System Administrator | Italy (Remote/Hybrid) A specialist in high-precision scanning and distributed compute infrastructure is looking for a System Administrator to ensure the seamless operation of its global hardware footprint. The company is currently transitioning towards a more automated, scalable environment, providing a unique opportunity to own the day-to-day health of a Linux-heavy ecosystem while contributing to long-term Infrastructure as Code initiatives. The Role The primary focus of this position is maintaining the stability and performance of scanning workstations and compute nodes. This involves a blend of hands-on hardware management and software-driven automation, ensuring that internal engineering teams and client-facing deployments remain highly available. Key Responsibilities: * Set up and configure scanning workstations, compute nodes, and complex storage systems. * Diagnose and resolve hardware failures involving storage drives, GPUs, memory, and networking. * Debug software-level issues, including drivers, containers, and internal proprietary tools. * Extend and maintain Ansible-based configuration management to reduce manual intervention. * Build repeatable deployment processes for new scanning stations to ensure consistency. * Provide technical support to both internal engineering and operations teams. * Manage networking infrastructure across internal environments and client-deployed sites. * Document infrastructure procedures and troubleshooting guides to build a robust knowledge base. Technical Profile The company requires a proactive administrator who is equally comfortable in a terminal as they are working with physical server components. Essential Experience: * Strong Linux system administration skills, specifically within Ubuntu environments. * Practical hardware experience, including the installation and troubleshooting of physical components. * Solid networking fundamentals and the ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues in distributed systems. * A clear understanding of the interaction between application software and infrastructure (GPU drivers, CUDA toolkits, and container runtimes). * A valid driving licence and a willingness to travel occasionally to client sites. * Professional fluency in English. Preferred Skills: * Experience with Ansible or similar configuration management tools. * Knowledge of enterprise storage solutions such as TrueNAS or ZFS. * Familiarity with monitoring and alerting stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Netdata). * Exposure to Terraform or AWS solution architecture. * Additional language skills in German or Italian are a distinct advantage. Why Join? The company provides a critical service at the intersection of hardware and software. You will play a pivotal role in evolving their infrastructure from manual processes to a modern, automated stack, working with cutting-edge GPU-accelerated technology in a highly collaborative environment.
