WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? ENGIE is looking for a Forecasting Data Scientist in Supply & Energy Management Italy, based in Milan. The ideal candidate is a data‑driven professional with a strong quantitative background and hands‑on experience in data science and machine learning, especially in time series forecasting. The role combines solid programming skills (Python and R) with a practical, business‑oriented mindset and the ability to transform complex data into actionable insights. He/she should have curiosity for energy markets and the energy transition, a willingness to deepen knowledge of market design and regulatory frameworks, experience with energy supply processes, modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Spark), and cloud‑based analytics environments. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑experts are essential. WHAT WILL YOU DO? As a Forecasting Data Scientist, you will develop and deliver forecasting processes and models that support the energy supply business. You will work closely with forecasting, portfolio managers, pricers, and other business stakeholders to ensure models are accurate, timely, and aligned with operational needs. Your work will contribute to optimizing costing, forecasting, sourcing, and hedging strategies. You will design, implement, and continuously improve forecasting tools and methodologies, aligning with global standards and evolving them. Cross‑functional collaboration within the SPM community and with data and forecasting teams in other countries will be part of your responsibilities. In addition to technical development, you will ensure operational reliability of models and provide scientific expertise for bespoke analyses and continuous improvement of forecasting practices. Key Responsibilities Model and Process Development: Design, implement, and improve forecasting tools, models, and processes for the energy supply business. Commercial Offer Support: Develop forecasting components for new commercial offers, ensuring alignment with business needs and market dynamics. Customer Insights: Analyze customer behavior using diverse data sources to enhance forecasting accuracy and business relevance. Data Utilization: Leverage internal and external data sources to ensure robust portfolio and consumption representation. Best Practices Promotion: Advocate for good practices in data handling, model development, and coding standards across the team and broader community. Code Quality Assurance: Maintain high‑quality, maintainable code by adhering to development standards and guidelines. Cross‑Team Collaboration: Engage with other quantitative analysts and data scientists to exchange ideas, models, data, and technical insights. ABOUT YOU Master’s degree or PhD in applied mathematics, engineering, data science, physics, economics, or a related quantitative field. Strong analytical mindset to tackle complex forecasting challenges and translate data into actionable insights. Clear and effective communication skills, especially in explaining technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Collaborative and inclusive team player, contributing to a positive and high‑performing work environment. Creative and innovation‑driven, passionate about developing state‑of‑the‑art forecasting models and solutions. Agile and adaptive mindset, embracing continuous improvement, iterative development, and responsiveness to changing business priorities. Cultural intelligence, capable of working effectively in a multicultural and international environment, respecting diverse perspectives. 2+ years of experience in forecasting, data science, or quantitative analysis, preferably in the energy sector. Proficient programming skills in Python and R, familiar with software development best practices including version control (e.g., Git). Knowledge of modern data science platforms and engines such as Databricks and Spark is a strong asset. Experience with cloud‑based analytics environments and digital tools used in forecasting and portfolio management. Fluency in English is a must; other languages are welcome.
