Description The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team is seeking engineers who can deploy, operate, and maintain our large‑scale, high‑density data center facilities—including electrical, mechanical, control, and fire‑fighting systems—and manage related projects. Key Job Responsibilities SAFETY Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world‑class safety culture. Lead by example in implementing and maintaining AWS safety protocols. Respond to emergency situations and coordinate with emergency services as needed. Engineering & Facility Operations & Maintenance Operational hands‑on experience and deep knowledge of electrical, mechanical, fire protection and control systems (UPS/UPS’s, Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, ATS’s, Diesel Generators, Chillers, HVAC, Water treatment systems, STS, Exhaust Fans, VFD’s, Fire Systems and Transformers). Operate, monitor, and maintain fire detection and suppression systems including pre‑action systems, VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus), and other fire protection equipment. Draft, review, and publish Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP), and Methods of Procedures (MOP) for in‑house activities. Review vendor documentation for preventative maintenance (e.g., RAMS – Risk Assessment Method of Statement). Perform routine inspections and testing of fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, and suppression systems in accordance with AWS standards and local regulations. Troubleshoot and resolve straightforward electro‑mechanical problems within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.). Perform hands‑on preventive and corrective maintenance activities on critical infrastructure. Execute equipment repairs, replacements, and facility modifications in accordance with AWS standards and guidelines. Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, equipment performance, and system configurations. Collaborate with internal AWS teams on capacity planning and infrastructure improvements. Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance. Respond to alarms and perform emergency troubleshooting and repairs. Train new team members (Drill, Buddy, Mentor). Participate in business reviews (e.g., WBR/MBR). Execute and plan work assignments using maintenance and change management documents, reviewing outstanding action items with the Facility Manager and/or Chief Engineer. Take action to make improvements based on operating experience, assist in creating process improvement plans, and provide feedback to site leadership. Manage ticketing systems for Preventive and Corrective Maintenance (CMMS, Incident management tool). Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with health & safety regulations). SHIFT WORK This is a shift‑based position requiring availability to work rotating shifts. Basic Qualifications 4+ years of hands‑on experience with critical facility operations and maintenance. Professional or formal Electrical Certification, Apprentice/trades certified, or diploma in an Electrical field. Demonstrate advanced electrical competencies (practice & theory) and strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, Controls). Knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems. Very good command of English (written and spoken). Driving license valid in Italy (required for shift‑based schedule). Availability to work in shifts. Preferred Qualifications Data Center/mission critical engineering experience. Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and monitoring platforms. Hands‑on experience with fire protection systems including pre‑action, VESDA, and gaseous suppression systems. Experience performing direct maintenance and repairs on critical infrastructure equipment. Experience working in shift‑based operations environments. Willingness to travel between data center sites, and internationally if required. Experience leading technical projects or initiatives. Demonstrated experience mentoring or training technical staff.
